Trailer: Interstellar: The first teaser for Interstellar gave away the grand total of zilch about Christopher Nolan’s latest, other than it involves space travel, cornfields and
1995-era Rust Cohle Matthew McConaughey. This latest one slips us a few more details, allowing us to assemble the bare bones of the plot: McConaughey plays Cooper, “an educated man, a trained pilot and an engineer”, a father of two whose technical skills mean little in a world fast running out of food. Michael Caine’s visionary scientist is in charge of a plan to find a new planet for humanity to call home, and he wants Cooper to lead the search mission, dragging Coop away from his family, possibly forever. The fact that various synopses have mentioned wormholes and Jessica Chastain has been cast as the adult version of Cooper’s daughter Murphy clues us in to some possible wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff going on here. From the looks of it, Interstellar feels somewhere between the space realism of Gravity, the race to save humanity of Sunshine and the extraterrestrial wanderlust of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which to many will sound like the perfect science fiction film.
Interstellar is scheduled for release on November 7th, and stars Matthew McConaughey, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, David Oyelowo, Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, Topher Grace and John Lithgow.
